In April 2017, I was selected by Hamilton BID to create a design I had submitted for a rhino sculpture. Hamilton BID, with Wild in Art, have organised a public art trail titled "The Big Stampede" to take over the course of Summer 2017. Throughout April, I brought to life, "the Rhino Who Dreamed" with acrylic paints and POSCA pens, on a statue the size of an actual rhino! The BIG Stampede, which was a great success and fun day out for children and adults alike during the summer of 2017, came to an end in August. The auction of the statues to raise funds for Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity took place on the 30th September at the Townhouse on Cadzow street in Hamilton. The Big Stampede Live auction (Hosted by Heart FM’s Robin Galloway) was a huge success, with entertaining animal themed choir performances of primary school children (so cute), to the thrill of watching people face off in the bidding, hearing the figure rising knowing that it was for a good cause was really captivating! Artists, bidders and guests were invited to mingle and get up close to each of the statues before the event began and I had a lovely time which included talking to a couple of children about my magical statue. It was great to know how the Rhino Who Dreamed captured imaginations! Watching the bidding take place was really exciting and I was quite nervous waiting for my name and statue to be called. About half way through, the bidding started on the Rhino Who Dreamed, which I managed to film (and I will hopefully upload this video in future). I am happy to say that my statue was purchased for £3200, more than I could of guessed! Overall, by the end of the night, a whopping £90,000 was raised for Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity. It was an amazing project to be part of and I can't wait to take part in more art trails in the future.
